Scott Weber doubles up; Naeger, Faulkner & Ems also take wins at I-55 Raceway!

Pevely, MO (August 13th, 2011) I-55 Raceway’s pit area was filled with 125 racecars that were prepared to battle on the high banked 1/3 mile dirt oval. Track crews had their hands full as well as two separate rain showers temporarily halted the program and forced track crews to rework the track’s surface. However, in the end, crews had a fast, smooth surface that provided some excellent racing. In the UMP DIRTcar Late Model main event, it appeared Tim Manville was on his way to his third feature win as he took the lead at the drop of the green flag and powered his way around the high side opening up a full straight away lead. However, Scott Weber, driving one of Randy Korte’s cars, would find a very fast line around the very bottom of the track and move up from his eighth place starting spot to second place very quickly. Once Weber reach the second spot, he would begin to reel in Manville very quickly, eventually catching him and making the pass for the lead with just four laps remaining. Weber would then pull away to take the win. Randy Korte, who started sixteenth, would follow Weber’s line around the bottom and storm into third and challenge Manville for the second spot in the closing laps as well. Manville would be able to hold Korte off and finish second. Jeff Johns would get a fourth place finish and take over the track’s point lead, just ahead of Mark Voigt. Dewayne Kiefer would move through the field after starting eighteenth to round out the top five. In the UMP DIRTcar Modified main event, Scott Weber would start on the pole and take a convincing win to claim his second feature win of the night. After Ray Walsh and Tim Hancock who were running second and third suffered flat tires, Weber really opened up a decisive lead. Mark Miner would follow up his win a week earlier with a strong second place finish after starting way back in eighteenth. Miner would be too far behind Weber once he got to second to be able to mount a challenge for the lead. Ricky Horton would finish in the third spot with Josh Russell taking fourth. Matt Mevert would come all the way to a fifth place finish after winning the last chance semi race and starting ninteenth. Troy Naeger would win the UMP DIRTcar/AARA Sportsman main event, but it would come with a little bit of contraversy. The caution would wave after one lap was in the books for a spin in turn four while Naeger was leading. While under the caution, it was brought to the official’s attention that Naeger’s car was spilling quiet a bit of fuel during the opening lap. Official’s inspected Naeger’s car and found it missing a fuel cap. Officials would retrieve a fuel cap from the infield pit area and put it on his car. Naeger would be allowed to restart as the leader which several drivers did not agree with. After the race was restarted, Naeger would hold off a brief challenge from Jeff Herzog that lasted several laps before Naeger would pull back ahead and go on to victory. Herzog would hold on for second with Chris Soutiea taking third. Brad Paquet would finish in the fourth spot with Trey Harris rounding out the top five. Aron Faulkner held off the challenges of Earl Pryor to take the win in the UMP DIRTcar/AARA Pro 4 Stock main event. Andrew Wibbenmeyer would take third with Chuck Johnson finishing fourth and Mark Crady fifth. Making their first weekly appearance of 2011, the UMP DIRTcar Factory Stock division would see Danny Ems taking the win. Ems was making his first start anywhere in 2011 after having heart surgery earlier this year for a condition he has had since he was born. Jim Bell would move up from his sixth place starting spot to finish second. Tommy Gaither would finish third with Dustin McClintock taking fourth. Buddy Love rounded out the top five. The UMP DIRTcar Factory Stocks will compete at I-55 Raceway for at least the next three weekends (August 20th, 27th and September 3rd).
