Veterans Dominate at I-55! (Pevely, MO - Aug 5, 2000) One hundred twenty four racecars entered the gates of I-55 Raceway and provided an exciting night of racing. Twenty-six cars took the green flag in the UMP Late Model division. Ed Dixon jumped out front from his front row starting position and dominated the event. Jim Durbin continued his strong season with a second place finish. Clay Baumann, Tim Ratajczyk and Chad Zobrist rounded out the top five. Scott Weber led all twenty laps of the UMP Modified feature. At times, Weber opened up a half-track lead over second place finisher Shawn Rayfield, who was celebrating his sixth wedding anniversary. Ray Wagner, Dennis Richards and Kyle Steffens finished third through fifth. Paul Belken took over the lead on the third lap of the Sportsman division and never looked back. The race was red flagged on lap six when Nick Werner and Frank Melton got together coming out of turn four and crashed hard into the inside wall. Werner's car then made a barrel roll and came to rest right in front of the judge's stand. Everyone was all right and when racing resumed Brian Worley was second and Dave Jenkins third. Danny Haynes won the Dwarf car feature. Mark Friday made a serious challenge for the lead but broke with two laps remaining. John Griffin was second and Tim Griffin came home third.
